A $0 annual fee is one part of the decision
Interest and repayment
Review the purchase APR and payment terms. Interest can exceed the rewards you earn, especially when carrying a balance beyond a promotion.
Transaction charges
Check balance transfers, cash advances and spending abroad separately. No annual fee does not waive fees for those transactions.
Reward rules
Compare earning limits, merchant categories and redemption conditions. Estimate rewards using spending you would already make.
No annual fee credit card FAQs
Which no annual fee card is best?
The right fit depends on your spending, repayment habits and priorities. Compare reward rules and other costs as well as the annual fee. This page covers six selected cards, not the entire market, and assigns no overall winner.
Does no annual fee mean the card is free to use?
No. Interest, late-payment fees, cash-advance fees, balance-transfer fees, foreign transaction fees and other charges can apply. Review each issuer’s pricing disclosures.
Is Quicksilver the same as QuicksilverOne?
No. The Quicksilver Rewards card included here has a $0 annual fee. Capital One lists a $39 annual fee for QuicksilverOne. Check the exact product name and pricing before applying.
Which listed cards earn purchase rewards?
Quicksilver, Savor, Active Cash and Customized Cash Rewards offer purchase cash rewards. Simplicity does not earn rewards, and Reflect’s reviewed issuer page does not advertise an ongoing purchase rewards program.
How does the Customized Cash Rewards spending cap work?
Its ongoing 3% choice-category and 2% grocery-store/wholesale-club rates share a $2,500 combined purchase limit each quarter. Purchases above that limit earn 1%. The reviewed first-year 6% choice-category offer uses the same combined cap and later reverts to 3%.
Do all grocery purchases earn Savor’s higher rate?
No. Capital One excludes superstores such as Walmart and Target from its grocery-store category. Merchant coding and other exclusions can affect earning.
Are no annual fee cards good for spending abroad?
Check foreign transaction fees separately. The linked Quicksilver and Savor offerings advertise no foreign transaction fees. A $0 annual fee alone does not establish that another card has no foreign transaction charges.
Should I choose cash back or an introductory APR offer?
Compare your repayment needs first. If you expect to carry a balance, borrowing costs can outweigh rewards. An introductory APR offer is temporary; check its scope, duration, start date and ongoing rate.
Can I skip payments with Citi Simplicity because it has no late fees?
No. Required payments remain due. Missing payments can affect your credit and account status even when a late fee is not charged.
Will I qualify for a bonus or introductory APR?
Promotional eligibility has separate conditions and may exclude existing or recent cardholders. Offers can vary by application channel. Use the exact issuer application page to confirm your terms.
Does applying guarantee approval?
No. Issuers determine approval and credit limits using their own criteria. These are U.S. card offerings subject to residency, identification and other requirements.
Why are signup bonuses and detailed APR figures not compared here?
This page focuses on annual fees, ongoing reward structures and selected features. Promotions and pricing can change or vary by channel; check the current application disclosures before applying.
