Before you apply

Look beyond the reward rate

Compare realistic spending

Use your actual business expense mix. Check how caps affect the annual total, rather than assuming every purchase earns the highest rate.

Review repayment costs

Read the APR, transaction fees and payment requirements. An introductory offer expires, and interest can exceed your rewards.

Understand responsibility

Review personal guarantees, employee-card liability and business eligibility in the application agreement. Check expense tools and controls if multiple people will use cards.

Common questions

Small business credit card FAQs

Which business credit card is best for a small business?

Match eligible spending, reward preferences and repayment needs to the card’s rules. This page compares four selected offerings and assigns no overall winner. It is not an exhaustive market review.

How do Ink Business Cash and Unlimited differ?

Cash has higher rewards in selected categories, with two separate annual category spending limits. Unlimited offers a broad 1.5% purchase rate. Compare them using your normal business spending rather than the highest headline rate.

Are the Ink Business Cash limits combined into one cap?

No. Its 5% categories share a $25,000 combined limit, and its 2% categories share a separate $25,000 limit, each account anniversary year. The relevant purchases earn 1% after their cap is reached.

How do Blue Business Plus and Blue Business Cash differ?

Plus earns Membership Rewards points; Cash earns cash back automatically credited to your statement. Both have a standard higher earning rate on the first $50,000 of eligible purchases per calendar year, then a lower rate. Plus also has separate eligible AmexTravel.com earning terms.

Is 2x points the same as 2% cash back?

No. Point values depend on how they are redeemed. Compare the redemption methods you expect to use before assigning a dollar value to points.

Does the annual spending limit reset on January 1?

The Amex limits shown here use a calendar year. Ink Business Cash uses an account anniversary year, which can differ. Confirm the exact reset dates in your rewards agreement.

Do these cards have an annual fee?

All four advertise no annual fee. Interest, foreign transaction, cash advance and other charges can apply. Review the current rates and fees for the exact offer.

Can a sole proprietor, freelancer or new business apply?

Check each issuer’s business application criteria and permitted business types. A business activity alone does not guarantee eligibility or approval. Provide accurate information about the business, revenue and the applicant.

Does a business card remove personal responsibility for repayment?

Do not assume so. Read the application and card agreement for personal guarantees, responsibility for employee-card spending and credit-check terms before applying.

Can I get cards for employees?

Review each issuer’s employee or additional-card options, fees, spending controls and account responsibility. Do not assume an employee card creates a separate reward cap or independent account.

Is Expanded Buying Power unlimited on the Amex cards?

No. American Express describes it as flexible spending above a credit limit subject to factors such as payment history, credit record and known financial resources. Check the repayment requirements for amounts above the limit.

Should I use rewards to choose a card if I carry a balance?

Consider borrowing costs first. Interest and fees can outweigh rewards. Any introductory APR is temporary and has separate conditions; review the exact application offer.

Why are welcome bonuses not compared?

Offers can vary by channel and eligibility. This page focuses on ongoing rewards, annual fees and spending limits. Check the linked issuer page for the current bonus and required spending before applying.

Can a business outside the U.S. apply?

These are U.S. card offerings. Check business location, applicant residency, identification and other issuer requirements. Owning a business or a U.S. company alone does not establish eligibility.

Choose rewards that fit how your business spends

Compare the four cards, then review the issuer’s current pricing, eligibility and application agreement.
